Hi. I have just done a "backup archive download file" from my RUTX11. Then I have tried to restore the same backup file back to the same RUTX11, but it says that the file is incompatible. How can it be? I am doing some test, changing the configuration of the RUTX and I need the possibility to reload any previous working config backup file. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I suspect this could be a bug, but it worked for me when I tried it. Can you generate a new file and try again? And if it doesn't work, can you send me the backup file via private message?
by anonymous
I tried again just after a "RESTORE DEFAULT SETTINGS", did a new backup and immediately a restore but it still says that the backup files are incompatible, so I too suspect a bug.

Still, can you send me the backup file? I still haven't received it.

Hi,

I'm running into the same problem with RUT955: "Incompatible backup file selected"

As we're using RUT955 in a series product, I need a reliable way in copying configurations from one "master device" to further ones.

There's no way I can redo the config with every new modem manually! Restoring master device with config files works perfectly fine.

What are the product codes (12 symbols) of both devices ?

These devices got HW differences. RUT955T033C0 is a new version of RUT955. Just make a configuration on it once and then use the new backup for other devies.

Thanks for the answer, but it doesn't really help :-(

Our plan is to buy at least 500 Rut955 in the next 3 years, therefore we need a configuration mechanism, that we can rely on. Manual configuration always means, that production stops and a developer has to do the config by hand! If this mechanism doesn't work, anytime you make changes to your hardware, we have to find a different hardware supplier, as your product doesn't suit into industrial production.

Additionally there may also be changes, that need to be applied to older HW-Versions in field already. If we only work with the new devices from now on, how should we handle this as the new config file is rejected by older devices? How can we know which backup works with which HW-Version?

Finally I'm wondering how you're able to run the same firmware on different hardware configs, but can't apply the same config on the same firmware it? Ususally there's a hardware abstraction layer to avoid such problems.

Hello,

Looking at the HW compatibility backup files for RUT955 can be uploaded for the devices with the same product code (First 7 symbols), for example RUT955 H***** and RUT955 T*****.

Also if the backup file was taken from older FW version you will still be able to use it with the Latest FW version, but not otherwise, I think you do understand that new Firmwares got new functions and configs, thus uploading backup files from new FW versions to old ones is not possible.

When buying new RUT955 T***** you will be able to use a backup file that you make once for all RUT955 T***** future devices.

Also Teltonika has a remote management system called Teltonika RMS ( https://rms.teltonika.lt/ ), where you can monitor your devices, upload configurations and Firmwares, group your devices with "TAGS" and control tagged groups all at once.

There you can get some more details about RMS system: https://wiki.teltonika.lt/view/RMS

Hi,

thanks a lot for your answer. Regarding RMS, there are two issues that need to be clarified:

- Security: If I enable RMS on my Teltonika devices, how can you garantuee security for my Teltonika-devices and the connected components. If somebody gets control over your RMS-server all devices attached to it, are easy prey. So how do you prevent your systems from being hacked? Are there regular pentests and security audits? If so, where are the reports and measures implemented? What kind of security certifications do you have for RMS?

- Initial config: Assumed RMS fulfills all requirements for a high security environment (see above), I still have to log into my devices and configure mobile connection and routing by hand, before RMS can establish a connection. Just downloading a master-backup-file does the job much faster and straight forward.

If the current hardware is RUT955 T***** , how long will it be available? Can I get a notification, if you make the next hardware change and I have to do redo the config next time by hand again?

Finally RMS seems to be able to send one config file to different HW-versions, in contrast to the firmware backup feature itself, which only accepts backups from exactly the same HW. Why don't you implent the same functionality in RUT955 firmware as in RMS?

Hello,

1. Regarding RMS security you can check the information given here: https://teltonika-networks.com/product/rms/. RMS is hosted on Amazon cloud which is highly secure itself. Tests and audits are confidential information and any information about them can be only given with NDA signed.

2. Router does need Internet connection in order to connect to the RMS system. If router is connected you can upload a backup file for the TAGGED group of devices. Backup can be uploaded when device is already online or if they were added earlier and are now offline backup will be uploaded at the time when it becomes online again. In the future there are plans to make multi-config (configuration without backup files for multiple devices) for all the services of the router, today you can configure Mobile: general settings, SIM card settings, SMS limits and SIM Idle protection settings.

3. If you follow Teltonika and get all the newsletters you would get notifications about any critical product changes. You can subscribe for the newsletter here if you go to the footer of the page. Also changes are posted on wiki page: https://wiki.teltonika.lt/view/RUT955_Product_Change_Notifications

4. This might be implemented in the future due to higher priority cases.
