We have several of these RUT955 devices and they seem to take a long time to register when using a multi-homed SIM (KPN) in the UK .

It seems like the device gives up on a network far too quickly and then tries another and another etc.

I have set these routers to reboot at 23:30 and here is the log showing it took 16 minutes to re-register on a network, when we can see the cell tower out of the window. The majority of the units are on RUT9XX_R_00.06.04.5 and I wonder if updating will help or is there something else we should try?

I see the firmware 06.06 released in March, after your post, mentions

"Fixed mobile service 3G + 4G configuration"

Did this fix your problem? If you hadnt seen it I thought I'd mention it in case it might be of interest.

I was searching for something related.

Hello,

First of all it is worth checking whether same behavior persists with the latest firmware.
Latest firmware version could be found in teltonika wiki with firmware change log:
https://wiki.teltonika.lt/view/RUT955_Firmware_Downloads

If the issue persist with the latest firmware, please clarify following:
1. What is the signal strength of mobile connection?
2. Does same behavior (long registering) also happening with standard SIM cards (non multi-homed)?
3. Is registration to the network faster when using other router/mobile device?
4. Does long registration happening every time after router's reboot, or there are cases when router able to register faster?
5. Does Auto APN feature enabled in your configuration? If so, have you tried disabling it?

Morning

Yes it is on R_00_06.05.3 which is the latest, we do have others on an earlier version, but can't risk upgrading them whilst they are on customer site. We have locked to a specific operator (EE) where this is causing a big issue, as this simplifies the process.

1/. -83dm currently on the one here. The one at our office is within 100m of the cell site (EE).

2/. Don't know, we only have these

3/. Yes, we use a lot of telematics devices here, and typically registration happens in approx 30-60 seconds.

4/. It does very, would be useful to know what to look for.

5/. We don't use auto APN as we have a private APN provided by our supplier.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for enquiring smiley

Yes we saw the update and have upgraded a few of the units out in the field (and the one here to RUT9XX_R_00.06.06.1) and it does indeed seem much better.
