Hello Peter,
Q: Is location information available regardless whether the device is on a 2G, 3G or 4G network? (our SIM card provider has only this information on their management page for 2G networks).
A: Yes, on RMS You can see location. Device’s coordinates are approximated based on information of neighboring GSM towers. For 2G this information will be approximate, often it is the location of a GSM tower. To get accurate GPS coordinates use devices with GNSS technology.
Q: Is it possible to retrieve the location information from the router or RMS, so that we can use it in our own application?
A: Witch device You are going to use RUT240 or RUTX11? To get exact location you should use devices with GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) technology. Connect GPS antenna to device and enable GPS (WebUI -> Services -> GPS). They supports GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS. GNSS coordinates can be seen via WebUI, SMS, TAVL, RMS.
There is many services letting RUTX11 to share location information: NMEA or AVL servers, MQTT, Modbus, SNMP, SMS utilities. Please give more information about your application, I will try to advise something.
