Hi all,

After 3 evenings of hard work and head scratching I now have my RUT955 talking correctly to my IPFIRE
linux firewall as a client in TUN mode

rest assured - I learnt a lot on the way and fully intend to document the process - but !...

there's at least 2 problem in the RUT955 Web GUI affecting Open VPN - and its seriously annoying !!  angryangry .

one, the GUI still shows that the VPN is not enabled even when the connection is up , and running perfectly!

two, when a VPN connection is deleted in the VPN GUI it is not deleted in the monitor page when that connection
is selected as an option.

What is the correct process for reporting these bugs to Teltonika please

#1 needs fixing in particular !!

Regards

BB

A Postscript to the issue (Hopefully)

A replacement RUT955 arrived in the post today and in performance the difference
was literally like "night" versus "day" . Everything just worked out of the box.

I'm going to give it 72 hours before declaring it completely resolved.

On the original router, the two initial faults got progressively added to:

* DHCP Service died never to return
* ESSID kept defaulting to  "RUT955_nnnn"
" LAN ports stopped working except in bootloader mode

And continued to be added to as time went on.

If you are experiencing these sorts of issues yourself then get the device exchanged ASAP!

That's great to hear. Will be waiting for feedback!

The replacement router continues to run flawlessly and has survived
two consecutive software updates, numerous other planned restarts
and both planned (and unplanned!) power outages.

If I were to be hyper critical then the only thing that I would observe is that
the VPN Status on the summary page is slow to update itself after a reboot
but the main VPN menu does show all the IP information correctly.

I have recomended to our management that we proceed to order an initial 20
units as a trial deployment.

And I am definitely getting one to install in my own VW camper van for family
use as the unit has interesting telematics GPIO potential to do fun things such as

* switch on my Desil heater via SMS or Cron job to defrost the van on winter
mornings,

* Sound the van's horn in a morse code pattern via SMS trigger to help find the Van
at large VW camper festival fields with maybe a few thousand similar vehicles all parked
in the same area.

Router #1 has been returned to the supplier so time to say "Case closed"

Seasons greetings to all

Can you tell me what FW version is currently running on your RUT955?

For reporting bugs in general, the best way is to contact Teltonika's technical support. Your sales manager should know how to get you in touch with them.

I would truly love to tell you - but I regret that I cannot.

I returned home today to discover my router was:

still powered up
radiating a new SSID RUT955xx <something>
DHCP not working.
VPN still connected
Router not pingable by VPN

As the WiFI was secured with a VERY strong key I am confident it wasnt compromised
The upstream Firewall prevented access to the router from the internet so no attack from there
(I verified in the firewall logs)

I can only surmise that it tried to upgrade itself and failed ???

So I RTFW (wiki) and VERY carefully put the router into boot loader mode

I downloaded the latest webui bootloader and reflashed it
I waited for the upgrade to complete
I went back into bootloader to index.html and uploaded the webui firmware
I waited for the upgrade to complete

As there was no other instruction I power cycled the router

Back to exactly the same state. This must be some different interpretation
of "reliable" to the one I expected

So as its only 72 hours since ownership began its going back to the supplier
with some strong words. I can overlook a few bugs but software death like this
in a production grade product is unacceptable! Particularly as we bought this one
as an evaluation unit - with the intention of buying between 20 and 100 more if
it met our requirements - this one has clearly failed with epic proportions

There is no way for router to upgrade itself automatically.

I only asume that you might have got a very old device and FW version. Also for issue like this troubleshoot file is used to identify why the issue might have appeared at the first place. Usually it is a question of correct configuration.

Millions of devices where VPN is used are running globally.

So "goodbye" to my theory of an auto update!smiley

After 4 to 5 hours of trial and error I (temporarilly) regained access
to the router GUI

Having done so , I reflashed the bootloader to 3.0.1 WebUI on the website via Uboot
After the router rebooted - I went back into bootloader and uploaded the latest
firmware on the website 00.05.02.6 webui

I then power cycled the router, set static IP of 192.168.1.2 and logged in

I was presented with an upgrade message , so I proceeded to upgrade to 00.05.02.7

After the update I power cycled the router

I logged back in , set my preferred ESSID  / WPA2 key and applied the change.
I changed to my new ESSID, logged back in. so far...so good

Then I changed the LAN IP to 192.168.100.254 as the default is in use at a remote site
I enabled DHCP and set the range .1 to .15 and the /24 mask
I saved the config ...
after it was completed, I deleted the wifi profile on my test laptop and connected
from fresh - I passed WPA2 setup but got no DHCP reply from the router.

I disabled wifi on my laptop , set my IP manually to 100.100, re-enabled the wireless
and immediately got an internet connection (in fact - i am typing this using it now)

A traceroute to 8.8.8.8 revealed that the router had accepted its new.254 IP , but
when I try to access the router GUI there is no reply from Luci.

Nor can I ssh to the router anymore.

So I would love to look at the troubleshooting menu and share the data within it  - but
to do so is another factory reset and its almost 3AM here... so maybe later. Im getting quite
quick at re-configuring this now!! just wish it wasn't ***** necessary to keep doing it . :-(

Whilst I am happy to test any suggested fixes - I suspect this router is jinxed and Ive messaged
the boss today to arrange a replacement next week as I cannot presently trust this one!
