It is highly recommended to use custom APN to avoid any problems authenticating with your operator.

Also make sure you selected your wanted interface in Network > WAN as Main interface.

You can always ping outter networks from your router through CLI to check if its your router or your pc that can't reach the internet.

Anything other than auto APN disconnects from AT&T, it seems that the issue is with the router/settings but cant figure out where the issue is

Could you confirm that manual and auto APN function is working with other operator SIM cards?
