Last week we lost connection to one of our RUT955 routers on a remote site. Using the tracing tool from the network provider showed that the unit was online and responding to ping requests. VPN link from router was down, no ping response, and device showing as offline in RMS. Power cycling the unit did not solve the issue.

At site I connected my computer to the LAN interface on the router. Accessing the web ui was very slow and laggy and at least half of the requests resulted in "bad gateway". See screenshots below.

Tried rebooting and power cycling several times but the issue was not solved. Syslog showed lots of errors:

[   71.860000] swap_free: Bad swap file entry 10000004

[   71.870000] BUG: Bad page map in process sh  pte:00008800 pmd:85489000

Hi,

Seems like something in the memory happened. Could you please reflash the firmware through bootloader menu and then come back to me with the results?

Dmesg shows:

[ 2.920000] init: - watchdog -

[ 4.190000] SQUASHFS error: xz decompression failed, data probably corrupt

[ 4.190000] SQUASHFS error: squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x1312ea

[ 4.190000] SQUASHFS error: xz decompression failed, data probably corrupt

[ 4.190000] SQUASHFS error: squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x1312ea

[ 4.940000] init: - preinit -

And:

[ 9.750000] SQUASHFS error: xz decompression failed, data probably corrupt

[ 9.750000] SQUASHFS error: squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x1312ea

[ 15.030000] SQUASHFS error: xz decompression failed, data probably corrupt

[ 15.030000] SQUASHFS error: squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x1312ea

[ 15.240000] mmc_spi: Unknown symbol mmc_request_done (err 0)

Could reflashing be done without using the UI, eg using an USB stick or any other way? The device seems to "broken" to load the web ui.

Did you try to reach the Bootloader menu? It works differently than all other WebUI. So even if WebUI is not reachable - it should let you reach the bootloader.

Please follow all the steps on the link page and tell me how it goes.

Firmware update was successful using bootloader mode. But the device is still not working as expected.

Full dmesg output is here:

Hardware failure?

I believe this is indeed a hardware failure. Please contact your sales manager or reseller so you could proceed with RMA.
