We are migrating to our new platform at https://community.teltonika.lt. Moving forward, you can continue discussions on this new platform. This current platform will be temporarily maintained for reference purposes.

Yesterday afternoon Telia had a major network outage that affected around 70 of our RUT955 routers. About 15 hours after the incident was solved 40 RUT955 devices still shows as offline in Teltonika RMS. Since the have no public IP address (they are NATed) we cannot reach the WebUI.

A handfull of those also have a backup openVPN connection and if we connect to them RMS status on status page shows:

And details:

What is the point of subscribing to the RMS service if it is not able to recover from network problems?

We are running latest firmware.

I had a similar problem to this recently, a number of devices that were online and had RMS enabled but weren't registering to the RMS platform.

I fixed it by sending a series of texts. Rebooting didn't help.

"password monitoringoff" followed a few minutes later by "password monitoringon". One still didn't come back and for that one "password reboot" fixed it.

We also have this issue with a TRB145 with latest fw. We were able to access the unit earlier this week, we normally keep "monitoring off" to save mobile data, but now when we turn "monitoring on" the unit will not go online (we have waited over 50 minutes now). But we know the unit is "online" because it is correctly posting sensor data to our IOT server every minute. This past week after we switch "monitoring on" it took a couple of minutes to go green (online) but never this long!

Going to customer site for reboot is not an option for us!

Hello,

For that issue of yours try disabling or enabling the RMS function. If not you can simply try to reboot the device.

If issue still persist let me know.

1. Enabling/disabling RMS function is not possible since WebUI is not accessble due to devices not connecting to RMS

2. Travelling to 40 sites in Sweden from Ystad to Haparanda to reboot devices will take weeks.

We decided to try RMS to avoid exactly those kind of problems. But if still operational devices get stuck in connecting to RMS the service is quite useless for its main purpose which we thought was to surveillance and maintenance, don't you agree?

Hello,

Yes, RMS is designed for that but as you can see the device is having a hard time connecting to it due to the network outage but usually it will automatically reconnect to the RMS server. Could you try disabling and enabling monitoring on the RMS side? Because in these such cases enabling and disabling RMS will do the trick or even just a reboot.

One thing you can do is to reboot the router through SMS Command a SMS command:
"router password" reboot
example: Teltonika123 reboot

Ok. I didn't realize until now that sms reboot is enabled by default. We do need to enable SMS on our IoT subscriptions though.

Is there any idea why RMS connection is failing? Router acting normal. Using CLI ping and dns resolution works fine. From CLI ps shows rms_connect is running. Is it a bug in the RMS connect client?
