Dear sir/madam,

My RUT950 has been working excellent for the last 2 years. But the last couple of weeks I've been having problems.

The connection has become unstable and drops frequently. Sometimes it only connects to a 3G tower, while a faster 4G tower is available as well. Sometimes it only connects to 2G or does not connect at all. I am using the latest firmware RUT9XX_R_00.06.07.4.

I've factory reset the device and reconfigured it. I've even tried downgrading the firmware but that didn't solve my issue either. I've put the SIM card in my phone and then I have a stable 4G connection, so I am fairly sure something goes wrong in the RUT950.

In the event log I see messages like this;

Tue Feb  2 18:38:43 2021 user.info Messaged[3053]: Start from new event "Network Type" "Joined 4G LTE"
Tue Feb  2 18:38:43 2021 user.info Messaged[3082]: Start from new event "Network Type" "Unknown"

....

Tue Feb  2 18:40:38 2021 local1.info gsmd[2020]: gsmd get: '+QCSQ: "NOSERVICE"' (18)
Tue Feb  2 18:40:38 2021 user.info Messaged[7946]: Start from new event "Network Type" "Unknown"
Tue Feb  2 18:40:41 2021 user.notice root: /usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:224: Failed to execute template dispatcher target for entry '/admin/status/netinfo/mobile'. The called action terminated with an exception: /usr/lib/lua/luci/template.lua:17: Failed to execute template 'admin_status/netinfo_lte'. I can sent the full troubeshoot file if this helps?

Thank you for your help.

Regards, Jeroen

Hi,

It looks like something is wrong with configurations and scripts in your device. Could you please reflash your device through the bootloader menu?

How to do it - you'll find here: https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/Bootloader_menu

This should wipe everything off your router and freshly install the new firmware.

Hi Ernestas,

Thank you for your quick response.

I did what you said and flashed the latest firmware (RUT9XX_R_00.06.07.5) via the bootloader menu. Afterwards I reconfigured it using the wizard.

The device still only connects to 3G. It looks like it first connects to 4G, but a second later switches to 3G. See log below. I've enabled the "Force LTE network" checkbox but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

Can you recommend what else I can try?

thank you, Jeroen

AT+QCSQ in log means that it queries nearby cells with the signal strength that you have. Could you check if your antennas are attached properly? Please also include your current signal strength that WebUI is reporting you.

I checked the antennas; they are properly attached. I am using a Poynting directional antenna.

I am now connected to a 3G celltower (-77dBm). See info from webui below.

But I know there is also a 4G celltower closerby that gives me a better signal strength of about -65 dBm. I was connected to this 4G tower for the last 2 years without a problem. My phone still connects to this 4G tower, but not the RUT950.

Signal strength    -77 dBm
RSCP    -79 dBm
Ec/Io    -4 dBm
Operator    vodafone ES
Operator state    Registered (roaming)
Connection type    3G (WCDMA)
Connected band    WCDMA 900

Thanks for your help!

Could you run gsmctl -I and paste the output here?

Here it is:

root@Teltonika-RUT950:~# gsmctl -I
+QENG: "neighbourcell","WCDMA",3062,-721,389,-870,-145,2,-32768,-
+QENG: "neighbourcell","WCDMA",3062,-721,218,-970,-245,2,-32768,-

Really weird, it gives only WCDMA options, maybe you have another SIM card that you could test this on to see if RUT950 connects to any 4G network at all?

Hi,

I did as you suggested and swapped the SIM card of my phone with the SIM card in the RUT950.

With the RUT950, I cannot connect with 4G with both SIM cards. But in my phone with both SIM cards I can connect to 4G.

Just yesterday I was able to connect to 4G with the RUT950 as well after rebooting/reregistering many times. I am not sure why it finally worked.

I noticed something else. When I click (re)register in the webui and run the gsmctl -I command may times, it does show 4G celltowers for a short time. But they disappear a second later. See below.

root@Teltonika-RUT950:~# gsmctl -I

So after many times rebooting/reregistering you got 4G connection?

EB.
by anonymous
Yes, yesterday this worked. But today I've rebooted/reregistered at least 20 times but there is no 4G.

Could we organize a remote session for tomorrow? if yes:

Please send me a private message with a time that suits you (please convert it to Lithuanian time to avoid misunderstanding).
