Hi,

Thanks for previous answers to my question about resetting my router. As before I’m not very tech savvy.

My RUT950 doesn’t work with an EE (UK) sim but it works in an old HUAWEI router.

I wondered if I could use the RUT950 as a WiFi extender if I connect them via a cable WAN to WAN.

Any other solutions equally welcome.

Thanks in advance

You simply plug the Ethernet cables into the adapters at each end. They can also come with built in wireless access points so that you don't need an additional wireless access points to extend the wireless vidmate network.

Cheers.

Will give it a go.

Do I need to login to the router and change any settings?

It should be on bog standard settings at the minute.

Thanks

Yes, because if you're connecting two routers you must be sure they have different LAN IP, but as you're looking to extend - make sure IP is different, but subnet is the same. So let's say one router is 192.168.1.1, the other one 192.168.1.2.

Also, DHCP server on one of the routers must be disabled, so if you're extending huawei network - disable DHCP on RUT950.

EASIER way to do this would be through relayd functionality, all you need to do is connect RUT950 in station mode to huawei WiFi and tick "relayd" checkbox in Network > LAN page.

https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUT950_LAN#Relayd

You will automatically extend the network of Huawei then.

Thanks EB. I will give it a go.

I had also contacted the RUT950 supplier and he said that EE was the default network so is unsure why the sim isn’t working.

I’ve got another EE sim enroute also to try and bottom out that aspect. Although the first EE sim works in the HUAWEI router ‍♂️

SIM should work, but there are things that you might want to look at:

1. If the modem is connected to operator (you can see that in WebUI).

2. If the signal quality is good, check antennas, they're super necessary.

3. If the APN is set correctly, sometimes it needs Custom APN to establish the connection.

Hi,

In this situation, you would need to connect the LAN to RUT's WAN.

This way your Huawei router will give the internet connection to RUT950.

To extend the network you would have to make sure, that RUT's LAN IP isn't in the same subnet as Huawei, you could either create a DHCP server in another subnet or just disable it at all.

There's also a relayd functionality, that extends WiFi network wirelessly, you just need to have a Wireless access point enabled on Huawei and with the Station mode of RUT950 and relayd enabled, you should easily achieve an extended network.
