We have some I/O´s on an RS485 network and would like to get access remotely from cellular and/or PC. I am new to IoT, but out from pamphlets, we got the impression that RMS + TRB255 could do the trick in an easy way, and without any static IP. But once bought, it turned out not to be "plug and play", seems to be far more complicated than we thought.

Is it possible to read and control the I/O s via a mobile cellular connection with RMS + TRB, an if yes, how do I get the things up going and speak with each other?

Hello.

Yes, you are right, with RMS you can access your device without a public IP address and monitor the status of your I/O. All information you can get on the links below:

OK, thanks.

Looking forward to trying this :-)

Hmm, there is a lot of information on adding Teltonika routers and gateways, but very little about connecting I/O´s. The I/O´s are sending data on protocol Modbus RTU. Can they only be monitored? I want to start and stop several pumps within the RS485 network. Is this possible via RMS?

To control the I/O elements, you can generate a link and access the router's web interface.

For the functionality you requested you might consider a customized RUT955, connected to your private web server, having a public IP.

Only makes sense for a commercial system, with multiple installs, though.

Ah, interesting.

What do you mean by "customized"?

And what does RUT magage that TRB don´t manage?

Customized: Special programming, to allow remote access, i.e. from iOS/Android app.

RUT955 can run officially supported openwrt, newest version.

Whereas standard OS on Teltonikas is openwrt, too, but old LINUX kernel, and supported by Teltonika only, not by openwrt community.
