I want to use a RUT950 and the WAN port with fallover to SIM cards.

However on that WAN cable I need to bring in some PoE to the cabinet housing the RUT950.  My plan is to use a POE splitter to pull off the 12 or 24v. Having 24v PoE on the input Ethernet line on this Wan port.. is that a problem.  I know the device won't like 48v PoE but is there a problem with 24v going in that port (don't need to power the device this way).

Hello,

Have you checked the wiki page for RUT955 powering options ? https://wiki.teltonika.lt/view/RUT955_Powering_Options

RUT955 can be powered via 1st LAN port, not the WAN port.

Yep I sorry you misunderstand - I've read this page.  I'm not looking to power the device by PoE.  But I do need to plug a WAN cable in which does have PoE.. I'm merely asking if having this voltage on the ethernet cable will cause damage.

Yes, I might have not understood your point well.

Could you draw a simple topology how you are planing to connect everything ? Will you use Passive PoE or is it a standard 802.3 af ?

Don't worry - just wanted to know if I could plug in an ethernet cable that happen to have 12v PoE in to the WAN socket.  Didn't want to power the device with this.

Hi again,

Scenario like this was never tested for a long term, but after plugged in for a day no affect was spotted.

Thanks - this is good to know.. as long as it didn't go pop straight away all is good.
