Hi,

It is normal that devices are heating up, but it's hard for me to imagine what do you mean by saying "very hot".

So you will have to measure the temperature yourself before I can answer you if it's normal.

With SMS you will not be able to do it, but you can do it with SSH:

https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/Gsmctl_commands#Get_module_temperature

And yes, you can turn off things like WiFi, services that are running, and so on to reduce the power that it draws. But before you do this we need to know what's the temperature right now to see if it's critical or not. If it is critical without any load on it - you might have to send it back to the reseller to avoid any chances that something is wrong with the hardware.

gsmctl -c currently equal to 490

Is this high, surely this cannot be 490 degrees C

Ambient temp is 18 Deg C, but the devices is inside a vehicle, but out of sunlight today

  • an integer number representing the module's current temperature (in 0.1 degrees Celsius (°C))
So 490 * 0.1 is 49 Celsius which is normal for the module, this is totally normal and you shouldn't be concerned about this.

Here we have stated the operating temperature:

https://teltonika-networks.com/lt/product/rutx11/

It varies from -40 to 75 degrees Celsius. But take in mind that it's an outside temperature only that we state, so components are much more sustainable than that as it is after all a working "computer".
