Can you setup a serial connection between 2xRUT955 without using an ISP (i.e. just using local wifi)

Might sound silly question but is it possible to setup a serial connection between 2 x RUT955 without using an ISP (i.e. just using the local wifi on the units)? The units would be about 500m apart with some obstacles in between.
