I'm in the process of trying to access the Internet using my RUT955 router.

Initially I tried a Virgin Mobile SIM but the Mobile Information panel showed the Operator as N/A and the Operator state as unregistered.

After trying a Three SIM these problems were resolved, so what can I do to enable usage of a Virgin Mobile SIM?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

For the issue you are facing try to do these steps:

Check and if needed upgrade FW to the latest version: https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUT955_Firmware_Downloads

It could be that you are facing a signal strength issue. Be sure to attach antennas. By checking the signal status on the Status> Network> Mobile page, try to find better coverage area. Recommended values are given here: https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/Mobile_Signal_Strength_Recommendations#4G_.28LTE.29

Check SIM card in any other device (e.g. mobile phone). If it is working, check what mobile settings that device use. Try using same settings in router. Or use new SIM card.

Check if APN is set correctly in mobile settings (Network -> Interfaces -> Mob1S1A1). Make sure that correct APN and Authentication mode/username/password are entered (if unsure, search online for that operator’s SIM card setting, or ask mobile operator).

Regards.

I did notice a newer version of the firmware - RUT9_R_00.07.01.1 which I've just applied, now I get a msg saying 'verifying' which has been shown for the last 10 mins....

How long should it take? I'm tempted to reboot...

Hello,

Firmware verification should not be longer than 1 minute.
In case after reboot verification process still took a long time, please try to upgrade firmware from the file.
You could download firmware file from this link.
Please inform about the process.

Best regards,

Thanks for the link.

Is it possible to upgrade the firmware using ssh? I much prefer a command line, since I have a better idea about what is going on.

The link mentioned above retreived the same file as the one on the firmware downloads page:-

Hello,

Yes, you could upgrade firmware using SSH.
In order to upgrade firmware with SSH I would like to recommend download firmware file, place it on /tmp folder and after that upgrade firmware with SSH command sysupgrade -o (this command keep all settings).
In order to get more information about this command, execute sysupgrade -h .
Hope it helps.

Best regards,

I finally managed to do an update via the GUI and selected getting an update from the server rather than from a local copy and the update worked and eventually the Virgin Mobile SIM was recognised.
