Hello!

I have a rut950 set up as a router in my vehicle. But when it connects to external wifi (wan) my phone and tablet start connecting, dropping, connecting, dropping to the extent that it stays connected for maybe 1 or 2 seconds then drops.

Why can't this piece of .... Hardware not work properly...?

You should check your firmware version against the changelogs, there have been lots of bugs fixed over the years:

There are two version of firmware so match the changelog with the version you are using.

Hi,

If the RUT950 is connecting as a wifi client in a moving vehicle, wifi has a limited distance range. Also keep in mind that if the RUT950 is using wifi as WAN connection, both routers must be in different subnets.

When you are connecting the RUT950 to the external wifi, are the routers working on the same subnet? If they are, you can change the network according to the following instructions (Network > Wireless > Edit > Interface Configuration > General Setup > Network) in the wiki page.

Or for Legacy WebUI: RUT950 LAN (legacy WebUI) - Teltonika Networks Wiki (teltonika-networks.com)

Nope, standing still. Also it's LAN that's reconnecting like crazy, not wan...

My tablet loses connection every 1-2 seconds to the rut950 2-3 m away..

No, they are not on the same subnet, cabled network works fine...

It's sad to say it, but every D-Link ever made works better than this thing...

Hi,

You should verify if the wifi antennae are correctly installed and if they are the right antennae for this purpose. Also, check if the wifi channel being used is too crowded (you can use a cellphone app like WiFi Analyzer). To see what channel is being used by the RUT950 and change it, you can check the Wifi 2.4 Ghz Settings on the webUI (Network > Wireless > Global 2.4 Ghz Settings > General Setup) or with the wiki page:

RUT950 Wireless (legacy WebUI) - Teltonika Networks Wiki (teltonika-networks.com) (for Legacy OS)

Finally, try to do a firmware re-flash via Bootloader Menu Firmware Upgrade. You can do so following the steps provided here:
