Hello,

i have a RUT955 set up that is primarily connected to the internet via wired WAN which in my case is a Satellite internet modem. This primary connection has failed supposedly due to hardware error.

Backup are two SIM cards for WWAN, one with a consumer data tariff, which has expired and a second one with a IoT sim with fixed IP.

I managed to swith SIM to the IoT SIM as connection of last resort, but still the device won't connect to rms. Only functional way of communication are the sms commands.

Upon the SMS status request I get a reply station that WAN IP is in fact the fixred IP if my IoT SIM, and that the data connection is OK with signal strength of -83.

But neither can i reach the WebUI via this IP nor do i get anything back when pinging the IP.

Since successful SIM switch RMS tells me "Device has attempted to connect to the system.". I get some temperature an traffic data from the device but no connection to the RMS.

So whta have i done so far:
  1.  I made sure no data limits are active (https://community.teltonika-networks.com/7612/disable-option-enable-mobile-data-limit-via-sms)
  2. I forced APN selection according to Provider:
    admin01 cellular apn=TM (->ThingsMobile)

    in addition I followed (https://community.teltonika-networks.com/21413/how-switch-using-sms-uci-commands-auto-apn-custom-apn-rut240?show=21413#q21413) to prevent a fallback to auto APN.
But still I had no success.

Hello,

Thanks for contacting TELTONIKA | Crowd-support forum.

Kindly be informed that both SIM cards cannot be active at the same time.

More information can be found here:

It is recommended that you upgrade the router's Firmware whenever there is a new version.

Target FW version: RUT9_R_00.07.01.4

More information can be found here:

https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUT955_Firmware_Downloads

https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUT955_Firmware#Update_Settings

Please proceed with the upgrade without keep setting.

In order to reach out your device via RMS, please follow the instructions below:

1 Configure the main settings required to connect the router to RMS (Remote Management System) In accordance with the link below.

https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUT955_Cloud_Solutions#RMS

2 Test your internet connectivity by launching a ping 8.8.8.8

https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUT955_Administration#Diagnostics

3 Available credits in your RMS Account.

Please check your credit balance and device service status at 'services' > 'management'

More information can be found here:

Well the router is in a remote location 2000km away, so i need to fix this issue just via sms commands in a way that i can at least re-access the device via rms for further troubleshooting.

Hello again,

It possible to switch from using one SIM card to another by sendig the following SMS to active SIM card number in the router: admin01 switch_sim

In order to check which the SIM card is active currently in the router, send the following message: admin01 uci show simcard

You will get a message similar to the message below:

simcard.cfg01aa0e.modem=1-1.4
simcard.cfg01aa0e.position=1
simcard.cfg01aa0e.enable_sms_limit=0
simcard.cfg01aa0e.service=auto
simcard.cfg01aa0e.band=auto
simcard.cfg01aa0e.auto_apn=0
simcard.cfg01aa0e.force_apn=-1
simcard.cfg01aa0e.primary=1
simcard.cfg02aa0e.modem=1-1.4
simcard.cfg02aa0e.position=2
simcard.cfg02aa0e.auto_apn=1
simcard.cfg02aa0e.primary=0

The SIM card with the field primary=1 is the active SIM card in the router.

In order to set up manually the APN send the following message to the SIM card active:

admin01 cellular apn=internet.ornage.ma

Please replace internet.ornage.ma in accordance with your situation.

Additionally, you can try to reboot your device using the following command: admin01 reboot

 On the other hand, in order to reach your device remotely from WAN, you have to enable remote HTTP access.

Here’s the sms to send: admin01 uci set uhttpd.main._httpWanAccess=1

After that you will receive an sms like that Created new option uhttpd.main._httpWanAccess=1

You can also check the uhttpd configuration by sending the following sms:

admin01 uci show uhttpd.main

Please note that enabling remote HTTP access makes your device reachable from WAN, this might pose a security risk, especially if you are using a weak or default user password!

Best regards

Suprisingly for me manually switching the primary SIM via uci command helped. I imagined that the sim-switch command I always executed manually upon reboot of the device would do exactly the same. However i did not manage to access the UI via the fixed IP directly but at least i can now access the WebUI via RMS and start troubleshooting the failed wired WAN.

Hello,

Enter in your router's WebUI, go to System > Administration > Access Control and the enable remote HTTP(S) access.
