Hi,

Is it possible to achieve category-based firewall filtering, i.e. block access to websites based on a category such as social media, porn, gambling, shopping, gaming etc etc?

Ideally, the solution should auto-update its list of websites and categories.

The device in question is the RUTX12.

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Greetings,

Thank you for your question.

In order to achieve this kind of functionality with automatic updates, you can install and configure an open source DNS server package to your router called adguardhome and add categorised lists that are constantly updated, for example: https://github.com/blocklistproject/Lists

To install this package, you need to SSH to your router and follow this guide: https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/services/dns/adguard-home#installation

After setting up, to add categorised blocklists, access adguardhome WebUI (Default - 192.168.1.1:8080), navigate to filters -> DNS blocklists -> Add blocklist

Best regards.
