Hi,

I believe I have the legacy RUT950 - the one with the old design (HW rev 0202). It has the huawei ME909u-521 LTE module.

This unit stopped working the other day having previously worked fine. It appears now to be stuck in bootloader mode. I can access both the firmware and the uboot pages via the fixed IP 192.168.1.1

I attempted to install various versions of the firmware to restore the unit and everything appears to go through the process - no errors are shown, but after various patterns of LAN lights it just reboots back into bootloader mode with the 4 LAN ports rapidly flashing at the same time.

I could not locate a download for uboot so wasn't able to verify if replacing the bootloader file would help?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Hello,

To start with, make sure, that device's reset button is NOT always pressed. I.e. if any debris is stuck in the housing, which is constantly pressing the button, that would explain why the device always starts in bootloader mode.

Afterward, try to perform the following actions:

  • Power on the device while holding reset button. Flashing all 4 Ethernet LEDs indicates that bootloader’s webserver has started.
  • Access router via web browser http://192.168.1.1/uboot.html
  • Upload new bootloader's fw "uboot_for_tlt_rut9xx_3.0.1_webui".
  • Wait few minutes. Routers LEDs should stop flashing. Only LED with LAN cable connected to that port should be active.
  • Power off the device.

  • Power on the device while holding reset button again.
  • Access router via web browser http://192.168.1.1/index.html
  • Upload new router's firmware "RUT9XX_R_00.06.09.2_WEBUI.bin".
  • Wait few minutes. Router's LEDs should stop flashing. Only LED with LAN cable connected to that port should be active.
  • Try to access router via web browser http://192.168.1.1

Thanks so much for this guide.   I think you were correct, something was triggering the reset button. I took the unit apart and gave it a good air blast and was able to reinstall the firmware following your guide.  Very pleased to get my router back up and running once again, thank you!
