I just bought one of these for a longer trip to Africa, and want to make sure I'm seeing this right.

It seems to only have the 2.4GHz band for WiFi, is this correct?

If so, which device with sim failover should I have bought?

Hello,

Indeed the RUT950 has only 2GHz WIFI available. However, it has two SIM slots, so you can failover between them. That is, if SIM1 fails for connectivity or data, you can make the switch to SIM2. Also, it can failover if you have a wired WAN connection through its port. Is that what you are looking for?

Yes I was looking for the SIM failover. If I had noticed the lack of 802.11a[c|x] and a Gbps switch I would probably have kept looking though =). Does teltonika have such a product? Perhaps also with battery option

I think you are looking for a RUTX11 or some device from the RUTX branch. These have SIM failover. Wifi 802.11b/g/n/ac Wave 2 (WiFi 5) with 2Ghz and 5Ghz and 10/100/1000 Mbps ethernet ports. Here you can see more info.

Thank you (=

I have another question, that perhaps should be standalone but I'll try here first.

I need to connect to B40 (2300MHz) and noticed this is not an option for manual connection in the UI.

I then found this

https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/Template:Networking_rut950_manual_supported_frequency_bands_table

and the device section tells me it's a RUT950 U02XXX which doesn't list that band on the link.

Am I screwed or is this firmware/configurable?

Yes, you can manually connect to a band. To do this you can log in via WebUI through the Network→Mobile menu. There you must choose the Band Selection option in Manual. That way you will be able to manually connect to a specific band. On the other hand, depending on the device's built-in modem you will be able to connect to certain bands. These are the ones that will be available from the WebUI.
