Question

To detect a failover condition between wan or sim cards the router pings 1.1.1.1 at a given interval.

It appears this interval is 3 seconds.

Does this mean that the router is constantly pinging 1.1.1.1 or is this only when a failure is detected?

While a ping is a small amount of data it would be very wasteful to constantly ping it every 3 seconds.

Hello,

It does by default do tests every three seconds. However, if you were to look at Failover interface configuration, there is a field, where you can define the time between each test.
