Using RUT955 RUT9_R_00.07.02.7.

We have set up the RUT955 with an additional WAN port. We have set up failover to the additional WAN port.

When the internet cable is removed, failover happens successfully to the additional WAN port.

However, when the physical link is still available, but the ping responses are suppressed, the failover does NOT happen.

It seems as if failover only happens when the physical connection is broken.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Could be please clarify what you mean by an additional WAN port? RUT955 has only one RJ-45 WAN port. Which WAN connections are you using? How do you suppress pings? Do you change the IP address of the tracking host in the settings to an unreachable IP?

Also, could you please replicate the issue, so that the pings are failing but failover is not happening and then generate a troubleshoot file? Troubleshoot file can be downloaded from System -> Administration -> Troubleshoot page.

Kind Regards,

Andzej

Hi,

We set up one of the LAN ports as a WAN port (see https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/LAN_as_WAN_RutOS)

WAN1 is an ethernet connection to the Switch and the Target PC is connected to the Switch.

WAN2 is connected to a RadioA. RadioA communicates with RadioB over the air and RadioB is connected to the switch connected to the Target PC.

Wan2 is the primary connection.

When the WAN2 Ethernet cable connected to RadioA is removed (WAN2 link is broken), failover is successfull to WAN1.

When the WAN2 Ethernet cable connected to RadioA is connected, but RadioB is switched off (WAN2 link is broken, failover does not happen. Failover should happen as the pings are not responded to.

As the physical connection between WAN2 and RadioA is still working, it looks like the RUT995 is failing over when the physical link is broken, and NOT when it does not receive any ping responses.

Hi,

Which firmware version are you using? The failover should work fine using the latest version.

Please, ensure that you are using the latest firmware version and have configured everything correctly, according to the instructions in the Wiki article.

The failover behaves this way on the legacy firmware. The testing was done on the two latest versions (RUT9_R_00.07.02.7 and RUT9_R_00.07.03) and the failover worked fine. When the pings failed, the WAN switched over to a failover WAN. The setup was configured according to the same article you have linked (LAN_as_WAN_RutOS).

If the issue persists, you can send me a private message and include a troubleshoot file from System -> Administration -> Troubleshoot and I will take a look at your settings. Please, include a Topology with the IP addresses and connections between devices. Alternatively, you can try to restore the device to factory settings or try to upgrade the firmware via bootloader (instructions available HERE).

Kind Regards,

Andzej
