Using a RUT950 as a 4G router. We connect the RUT950 as a VPN client to a PPTPD  server via 4G, and use the VPN as the default gateway . This works fine - traffic from the LAN is routed via 4G to the PPTPD server. BUT we can only connect to the WebUI via the WAN, ie. the PPTPD client address. We can't connect from the LAN to the LAN address of the RUT950.

Until recently this worked fine, until we did a firmware update, now impossible to get in to the WebUI from the LAN. Why would that be?

TIA

Hello,

I have tried to replicate the issue, by setting up PPTP client and server with routers on the latest firmware, but I was able to reach the router with the client's IP address and with the LAN cable. What IP address is shown on the computer when you connect the cable?

Sorry - clicked on Answer not comment!

LAN IP address of the RUT950 is 192.168.1.2 This can be pinged from PC with lan address 192.168.50. But cannot get a http or https connection from 1.50 to 1.2

The IP address of the RUT950 as client is 192.168.80.253 If I connect the 192.168.1.50 PC to the same VPN it gets the address 192.168.80.101 - it can then connect to RUT950 at https://192.168.80.253

So connection to WebUI is ok from WAN but RUT950 not accepting https(s) connections from LAN

Strange, and thank you for your response.

Could you please specify what is the gateway set up on your computer? As I understand your computer is set to static with an IP address of 192.168.1.50, so gateway should be 192.168.1.2 and subnet 255.255.255.0.

Also, the second culprit might be disabled local WebUI access, while remote is enabled. Connecting trough PPTP is considered remote by the system, so it would allow you to connect. You can check this by going to System -> Administration -> Access Control.
