The BAT120 provides backup power using two 18650 Li-ion cells. Eventually all batteries will fail over time. What is the failure mode for the BAT120 when the batteries go bad ?

Will the BAT120 continue to provide power to a connected device as long as the BAT120 is powered using an external power supply ?

The BAT120 power button is an on/off slider. During a power outage the batteries will be drained until power is restored or until the batteries are completely empty. Will everything start working again after the power is restored? So charging the batteries and restoring power to the connected device?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out!

I'd need to request this information from our lab, but I'd expect it to perform as you described - provide the power as long as the batteries can maintain a certain voltage.

As for the ON/OFF slider, it does not mean that the device will not provide power when the slider is set to off the BAT120 will work in a passthrough mode, meaning that it will not charge the battery, but simply pass the power directly to the output. It is meant for transport from the factory.

As for the device operation after the power outage, that is correct, as long as the switch is set to the ON position, the PSU will charge the BAT120 and power the connected device. However, please keep in mind that BAT120 is designed to operate as UPS, thus charging time while another device is connected can be quite long, as the device was designed to slow the battery degradation.

Hope this answers your questions!

Hi DaumantasG
If the ON/OFF slider is in the ON Position and there is power to the BAT120, Does the connected device use the batteries for power or the grid?

Hello,

While the switch is set to ON, the device will use battery power, however, the battery will also be charged at the same time. This is done to avoid any interruption to the power supply in the event of a power outage.

We've had a situation where a contractor at one of our sites completely turned off power for more than 1 day.  The BAt120 was completely discharged but when power came back on to site, the attached RUTX12 router did not power up automatically.  It took us to ask a remote electrician to toggle the power off and on switch on the Bat120 for the router to receive power.

If this is expected behaviour then it is a huge oversight!  If it isn't, do we have a faulty Bat120??

Thanks
