What is the difference between the TRB255 & TRB245.

We are looking to use the modbus to MQTT for data collection. My understanding the TRB255 does not support cat4 LTE.  Does the TRB245 which supports cat4 LTE also support catM1 and NB.

we are looking to send these world wide and Information on this would be great thanks

Hello,

The main differences between TRB245 and TRB255 are:

  1. TRB245 supports Cat4 LTE while TRB255 has Cat-M1/NB-IoT which you mentioned.
  2.  TRB245 also supports 3G and 2G while TRB255 only supports Cat-M1/NB-IoT and 2G. It doesn't support 3G connectivity
  3. TRB255 has less power consumption on some scenario since it has a slower speed. Refer to the links regarding the power consumption of both devices. TRB245, TRB255
All our gateways and routers do support Data to Server functionality via MQTT, HTTP(S), and Kinesis protocols.
Here's the link for Data to Server functionality on both mentioned devices. TRB245, TRB255.
Lastly, TRB245 doesn't support CatM1 and NB-IoT. It only supports LTE Cat4 for 4G.

Thanks for the info and maybe a very open question coming next.

Which solution is better for sending the data via MQTT over a mobile network, Cat4 LTE or Cat-M1/NB-IoT?  Apart from data speed difference between Cat4 LTE and Car-M1/NB-IoT why would you choose one over the other,  Signal Range maybe?

Hello,

If speed is not an issue, then Cat-M1/NB-IoT is a good solution. Cat-M1 is considered an Internet of Things (IoT) cellular technology. Since it has a lower data rate, meaning the further the signal can travel with less power consumption.

If you're planning on placing the device in some areas (e.g. Inside a building with less coverage because of walls etc., or in a building basement) Then TRB255 is a good choice, since the signals will have a better penetration or coverage.
Hope this helps :)

Best regards,

Robert
