Hi,

I just witnessed one of our RUT240 becoming completly unresponsive: neither the ping reboot did work nor did it respond after receiving a "status" SMS. Connected devices had lost their internet connectivity. After a power cycle, the router is working again as expected.

Do you have any explanation what happened here? Why did the router not reboot?

Hello,

Having just this event log information is not enough to determine the real cause why router failed to reboot.

If this issue will ever occur again for you, take note how router's LEDs are behaving. Also, before rebooting the router, try setting static IP address on your computer and check if you can connect to the router via Static IP address. If you will be able to do so, navigate to "System -> Administration -> Troubleshoot" menu and download a troubleshoot package from the router.

One of the possibilities why this could occur is custom script or application on the router, which would interfere with router's boot sequence. Have you installed any custom application/package to the router through SSH? Or have you configured any custom "functionality" through "System -> User Scripts" menu? There is a easy way to check if anything is interfering with router's reboot - you can simply try to reboot the router through WebUI ("System -> Reboot" menu)

Another reason might be related with router's bootloader. If your RUT240 has old bootloader version (you can check it from "System -> Firmware" menu) and if you have an option, we would recommend to upgrade your device's bootloader to the latest one.

Latest RUT2 bootloader can be downloaded from here: https://wiki.teltonika.lt/view/RUT2xx_Firmware

Here is detailed step-by-step instructions how to upgrade router's bootloader and firmware:

  •  - First of all please set static IP address on your network interface (e.g. 192.168.1.10)
  •  - Use private/incognito Web browsers window with cleared/disabled cache

  •  - Power on the device while holding reset button.
  •  - Access router via web browser http://192.168.1.1/uboot.html
  •  - Upload new bootloader's fw "U-boot_mod_tlt_rut200_3.1.0_webui".
  •  - Wait few minutes. Routers LEDs should stop flashing. Only LED with LAN cable connected to that port should be active.

No, there are no additional packages nor any user scripts on the router.

Currently, it runs FW ver.: RUT2XX_R_00.01.07.1. It indicates that a new version is available.

Could it be somehow related to that last DHCP request it received? the problem apparently occured exactly within that 15-minute window of the request...

Hello,

The "RUT2XX_R_00.01.07.1" version, which you can see in "System -> Firmware" menu is router's "firmware version". This firmware can be easily update through the same menu and is responsible for router's functionalities.

However, router also have "Bootloader firmware", which is responsible for router's boot up sequence and internal workings. Its version can also be seen from the same menu, however update process is way different. In order to upgrade bootloader's firmware, router must be started with reset button pressed. Only then bootloader's firmware could be upgraded. If your bootloader's firmware isn't "3.1.0" and if you have an option, we recommend to update it.
