We would like to communicate with an RS232 device over IP. We have configured the serial port on its subpage on the RUT955's webUI. Now how can we actually read the serial data over IP?

You can use network socket.
Keep in mind, that if selected "Server" mode in serial port configuration subpage you should add traffic rule which opens your selected port.
