I'm using a RUT240 (firmware RUT2XX_R_00.01.12.1) in bridge mode, main WAN is mobile, WAN failover is disabled.

I found out, that the RUT240 is interrupting internet access, when it is renewing its WAN IP (assigned by the mobile operator). With a lease time of 7.200 seconds this happens every hour.

The interruption starts with the following actions (extract from logread log):

Sat Aug 29 21:23:27 2020 user.crit syslog: get_param value: add

Sat Aug 29 21:29:23 2020 daemon.notice netifd: ppp_4 (2555): udhcpc: sending renew to 10.28.165.50

Sat Aug 29 21:29:23 2020 daemon.notice netifd: ppp_4 (2555): udhcpc: bind(UDP): Cannot assign requested address

Sat Aug 29 21:29:23 2020 daemon.notice netifd: ppp_4 (2555): udhcpc: sending renew to 0.0.0.0

During renewal and its associated actions (from 21:29:23 til 21:29:40 = 17 seconds) there is no internet access: downloads are interrupted and VoIP calls are broken off. For my intended use this is not acceptable and an absolute show stopper.

Is there any configuration to avoid this hourly interruption?

Postscript:

I made further tests and configured the RUT240 for NAT mode. The renewal process looks quite different in NAT mode:

Sun Aug 30 16:00:00 2020 cron.info crond[1790]: USER root pid 23852 cmd /etc/init.d/rut_fota start

Sun Aug 30 16:32:48 2020 daemon.notice netifd: ppp_4 (2463): udhcpc: sending renew to 10.29.87.176

Sun Aug 30 16:32:48 2020 daemon.notice netifd: ppp_4 (2463): udhcpc: lease of 10.29.87.175 obtained, lease time 7200

Sun Aug 30 17:00:00 2020 cron.info crond[1790]: USER root pid 1877 cmd /etc/init.d/rut_fota start

Sun Aug 30 17:32:48 2020 daemon.notice netifd: ppp_4 (2463): udhcpc: sending renew to 10.29.87.176

Sun Aug 30 17:32:48 2020 daemon.notice netifd: ppp_4 (2463): udhcpc: lease of 10.29.87.175 obtained, lease time 7200

Sun Aug 30 18:00:00 2020 cron.info crond[1790]: USER root pid 11845 cmd /etc/init.d/rut_fota start

And there is no interruption with the internet access.

So I guess the reason for the 15-20 seconds interruption in bridge mode is due to the different renewal handling.

Hello,

It would be great if you could use bridge / NAT modes one more time and send me a troubleshoot file from your router. It can be found at SYSTEM > ADMINISTRATION > TROUBLESHOOT section.

I will need you to send me two files, one with bridge mode and one with NAT. You can send me those via private message.

Regards,
Justin

Sorry, I got your answer too late. sad

Yesterday was the last day for returning the RUT240 to the dealer. It's already on the way to him and therefore I can't create any troubleshoot file.

Nevertheless, thanks a lot for your willingness to help.
