I just bought a RUT850 and are having problems making the SLEEP function work correctly when only using Voltage and not ignition.

I think this may be a bug or firmware error.

Using the Sleep with Ignition only: everything works fine, it wakes at ignition on and it goes to sleep the defined number of minutes after ignition is turned off - and STAYS in sleep.

Changing it to sleep based on low battery only: everything seems fine, it wakes at ignition on and it goes to sleep the defined number of minutes after battery low, but then it immediately starts again, no matter if battery is til low and if ignition is on or off.

Can anyone confirm this or is it just my box or configuration ?

Thanks, Dannie

PS: For those that wants to get an email or SMS when battery is low and/or have it logged in the eventlog, I have made a script to do this and is currently testing it. I dont know if this is usable on other routers that RUT850. If you are interested in this, please let me know as I need a tester or two, before posting it in this forum.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting .

What FW version are you using ?

Latest could be downloaded here .

What configurations you made on your device ?

https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUT850_Administration#Sleep_mode

How are you powering the device ? Could you please check this

What do you mean by but then it immediately starts again, no matter if battery is til low and if ignition is on or off.

After how long it starts again ?

Thank you.

Have  a good day .

Ahmed

Hi,

RUT850 latest version:
RUT850_R_00.01.04, date 2020-05-15, 05:50:22, Kernel 3.18.44, Bootloader 2.0.1, STM8 10

Router is set up with a OpenVPN client connecting via mobile network (not wifi) to the public IP of my home firewall, I have a functioning connection via the OpenVPN and connect to the GUI of the router and can also connect to it using WinSCP and PuTTY.

It is connected in a test setup, to a car battery where it is powered constantly on red wire, ground on black and ignition (using a switch) to the green wire.

So step by step.
1. Connect power to battery
2. Ignition switch is on and router boots fine
3. Wait for it to establish OpenVPN connection
4. Connect to Web GUI (Via OpenVPN connection)
5. Check GUI->Status->Overview->Sleep mode information

6. Set "Sleep condition" to 14.0V and 5 Minutes in System->Administration->General->Sleep mode.

7. Check that it knows that it is in low battery condition and counting down in System->Status->Overview

8. When it gets to "0m 05s" it goes into sleep mode (Watching the leds on the router)
9. Less than 1 second later it goes out of sleep again, and comes online.
10. Then it starts all over from step 7, 8 go to sleep, 9 wake up in one second and then back to step 7.
PS: Ignition state on or off, does not change above behaviour.
Never ending loop, never stays in sleep.

If you use sleep mode on ignition only, it works as expected:
- Goes to sleep after countdown, when ignition is off - and stays in sleep mode
- Turn ignition on and it comes back online and stays online.

Regards, Dannie.

Hello,

Could you please share a troubleshoot file for the device for my analysis .

Troubleshoot file could be downloaded in System>Administration>Troubleshoot.

Thank you.

Have a good day.

Hi,

I really tried to troubleshoot this issue, but the first time I tried it failed two times, then it started working as expected ?

Then I reapplied the latest firmware and tried again, but I also reduced the difference between the voltage sleep limit and the actual battery voltage. I do not know if the issue may have something to do with the battery voltage increasing just a little when the router goes into sleep.

But here is my test results and the troubleshoot file.

My battery voltage was 12.9V so I sat the sleep voltage limit to <13V and it started counting down to sleep.
Then it went into sleep mode, as you can see from the ping I have running, but it started right up again and was online shortly after

Then after logging on to the GUI, I could see that it was already counting down again, went to sleep and came back online again

And again

Then I downloaded the troubleshoot file.

How do I share the Troubleshoot file with you ??

Is OneDrive ok?:

Hello,

Thank you for waiting .

For testing purposes, can you please restore device to default settings by holding reset button?

You seem to have added script to the router "PS: For those that wants to get an email or SMS when battery is low and/or have it logged in the event log.

It could be the situation where your configuration and custom scripts is causing the issue, thus by resetting device to default settings we can concentrate on your configuration or check for firmware issue if router in default configuration acts the same.

In order not to loose current settings, you can download Backup configuration file an upload it back after testing.

If same issue appears with default settings, we would need such troubleshoot file as well.

Hello,

Thank you for the information .

Will get back to you.

Hello,

Good day,

We have tested sleep mode in different conditions, like Ignition, Voltage, Voltage or Ignition, in every case sleep mode worked correctly.

Once router went to sleep mode it didn't power up after some period and stayed in sleep mode until sleep condition was not longer valid.

If your case, you set limit to 13V, while observing, that voltage level is around 12.8V, but battery level at some point was 14.7V,

which should power up device from the sleep mode.

From current information, it looks like you set voltage level close to batteries voltage level, but voltage spikes reaches and exceed set voltage level,

which resolved in the power up of the router.

If you set voltage to 16V, does the router will power up once going to sleep mode?

Kindly check and revert back to us .

Thanks
