Hello we have for the last couple of years been using PPTP VPN to connect the teltonika RUT950 to a virtual windows 2019 server and up until a couple of weeks its worked fine, now we find for some reason the VPN wont work.

I have heard that PPTP is being phased out now and to use an alternative

any ideas how to set this up? what do people recommend?

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

When it comes to VPN's PPTP is definitely outdated. If you are using a Windows server you could try SSTP which is VPN owned by microsoft and is mainly for Window machines. It is way more secure as it uses SSL encryption and fairly simple to set up.

If you would prefer something more advanced, OpenVPN is always a good option. it is a little bit more difficult to set up, however, it provides great security and speeds. And we do have an extensive list of its configuration examples:

thank you for the reply i really appreciate the help.

I will give SSTP a try as I need the RUT950 to be the client and the virtual server to be the server
