Hi,

I want to config an OpenVPN server on my RUT240 as a newbee and found out that the documentation is quite different to that what I see on the WEB GUI (old or new, dosnt matter).

Especially, I should open a file with the preshared key, but no information what extension this file should have and how the content should be formatted.

Is there any step by step guide available how to set up such server? (This will be more helpful in the field than a Wiki).

My scenario:

RUT240 connected to internet using the Mobile interface and dyndns to be visible all the time.

WiFi and both LAN sockets logical connected to the private internal network.

Sometimes a OpenVPN client connects to access the device(s) connected to the internal privat network using VNC.

Thanks for helping.

With best regards

Gerhard

Hi, there is an article in the wiki with a detailed description of the settings - https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUT240_VPN#OpenVPN_Server

All information about TLS keys is available on the official OpenVPN website https://openvpn.net/community-resources/setting-up-your-own-certificate-authority-ca/

There are instructions for configuring the server and client, but it describes the old WebUI - https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/Connecting_two_same_subnet_office_networks_using_OpenVPN_bridge_(TAP) _on_RUT9xx, but the basic settings will be the same.

Best regards.

Thanks,

but my WebUI page is totally different from that shown in the documentation. I checked the old and new documentation.

The last link is an article, which describes what I need, but at the beginning a dynamic public IP is a prerequisite and at the end I need a fixed public IP ....

update your RUT240 to the latest firmware, instructions and files are available at the link - https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUT240_Firmware_Downloads

When using the current firmware, the Web UI should not differ from the information in the wiki.

You use a dynamic ip and ddns service, specify the domain connection from ddns as the server, not the ip address. But to check, you can try using a dynamic ip because it usually changes once a day.

Best regards.

Thanks.

Just finished the upgrades, have to do it in two steps. Looks fine, system is more responsive  (GUI) and status pages have now update behavior.

Ok, will try this 'trick', hope it works out.

Hi,

now I am on the newest FW but still differences between documentation and WebGUI.

WebGUI:

Still not clear what to fill in at the address-boxes.

I have configured some static VPN tunnels using Netgear and Lancom routers, never have to type in such addresses...

With best regards

Yes, one of the examples I sent above uses Legacy FW, but the main article on RUT240 now describes the current firmware. https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUT240_VPN#OpenVPN_Server

Contextual hints are enabled in the Web UI by default, and when you hover over any settings item, you will see a pop-up description of this item. And also on the link above there is a description of each item of settings, including all ip addresses that need to be specified.

These ip addresses are filled in only in order to correctly, automatically configure routing and not do it with your hands.

for your situation, the description of ip addresses will be as follows:

  • Local tunnel endpoint IP IP address of the local OpenVPN network interface.
  • Remote tunnel endpoint IP IP address of the remote OpenVPN network (client) interface.
  • Remote network IP address LAN IP address of the remote network (client).
  • Remote network IP netmask LAN IP subnet mask of the remote network (client).

Best regards.
