I have a new RTU240. Trying to do nothing more than send / receive SMS however I cannot achieve this reliably. A few messages will work and then the modem locks up. This seems to occur immediately after receipt of an SMS message, however not always. The most it has ever received successfully is 9, usually it fails after 1 or 2. When it fails the gsmctl -Q (to reset the modem) also fails. When it fails any gsmctl command that addresses the modem returns ...

GMSCTL error: reading message

N\A

I upgraded to RUT2_R_00.07.01.4_WEBUI firmware. I've tried two difference SIM cards and providers. Both work for a couple of messages. When the failure occurs the webclient becomes unusably unresponsive so I have to ssh to the RUT240 to see anything. From logread I see the following typical successful receipt of an SMS message followed by the modem immediately locking up.

... up to here it all looks OK, but the modem has faulted

Sat Mar 19 13:37:38 2022 daemon.err uhttpd[2307]: Failed to lookup "info_modem_id" option string

Given SMS send and receive successes with several messages, with different SIM cards, this is starting to look like an intermittent hardware fault in the modem.

I have also used both the default aerials and a 10dBi panel. SINR bounces around but is occassionally as high as 13.

Hello,

After the modem fails and you log in via ssh to the router. What do you do to redo the tests? Can you try to restore the firmware from the bootloader menu? To do this I leave the steps in the following link.

https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/Bootloader_menu

Please, after restoring the firmware to its latest version. Try to test again and try to generate the behavior again. If so, please send me again the logs with the modem failure.

I reboot the modem (randomly ssh or webclient), it recovers, works for a bit and fails.

The firmware is already the latest.

When I run the troubleshooter from ssh it is very slow but it does run. The gsm.log file reports the following information which is indicative of a failure of the modem to respond on the tty device.

After a reboot the output looks good. i.e. the troubleshoot file reports as below and sending and recieving SMS works ... for a few message. Like ...

Is this the only device you have? or do you have other devices that have the same issue? Can you please send me the troubleshooting file when you re-generate the behavior?
