Hi There,

Trying to setup a rule on a RUTX12 to block access to a certain IP address range. Basically those used by Discord.

I have tried several different ways of doing it, including listing out each individual IP address (I found by looking up all of discords url's) but it was being ignored. As a desperate measure to see if I could block it at all, I tried using 162.159.1.1/16 to block the whole subnet but that is also ignored. Discord is still working and I can see traffic flowing unhindered in tcpdump in the CLI.

Any thoughts please?

I don't really want to have to buy another device. This should be possible with the RUTX12 surely?

I've also tried setting up a rule to blocl ALL traffic destined for port 443. I confirmed the rule works as I can't access any https sites. But, discord continues to work. It's literally unblockable!

If I block destination IP address 162.159.134.234/16 on Windows Firewall on my PC, it blocks discord no problem. Why doesn't that work on the RUTX12?

Hello,

You can use AdguardHome to block Discord and several other "services", the setup is a little tricky you have to force the logs to be in ram else you'll burn the flash, and set an alternate dns port. I have a full config if you are interested.

Hello,

Have you tried the Web filter functionality described in more detail in this wiki page: https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUTX12_Web_Filter.

Best regards,

Thanks for that, sadly that doesn't have scheduling capabilities. I want to block discord between 23:00 and 07:00 :(

Hello, you can create several configuration profiles from your current configurations and use Scheduler functionality to set the switch between configuration with Discord blocking and without. You can find more details on profiles configuration in this site: https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUTX12_Profiles.

Best regards,

Thanks, does that require the RUTX12 be the clients DNS server? I ask because the domain blocking doesn't seem to be working and the only thing I can think of is because I have an internal DNS server.
