Hello,

I'am  exploring my RUT950 router today...

After looking around different options, my main concern is that i'am still confuse about how to manually switch from sim1 to sim2 (and vice versa).
(Even after looking deeply around the wiki and make a lot of test)
I feel i'am still missing something somwhere in the interface?

Sooo Please ! Can someone can confirm/explain me the best way to acheive manual sim swicth using both the webui and cli ?

By now, via webui :

i think i need to go to Network>Mobile>Sim Management :
- Disable " Enable automatic switching"
- chose Sim1 or Sim2 a primary simcard
- Save for manually switching.

But :
- this opération take a while as is need to apply this default sim change on numerous config file before actually switching.
- After that, the selected sim will be the default after reboot.
It bother me as may want to keep the sim1 as default.
 

Is there à better, simpler, faster option to simply switch and without changing the default sim ?

Also, i may want to manually switch between sim, but with the automatic switching feature enable...
From my test it doesn't seem to switch if i choose a primary sim, then save as the automatic switching feature is enable.

And also some few last questions : 

- how to switch between sim via CLI command ?
- what STABRIDGE option stand for concerning the Health monitor ICMP interface ?
(found nothing in the wiki about this)

Hello,

I have the same request. I would like to be able to force the router to switch sim for test purpose.

It's boring to have to change primary sim card value then save configuration, just to test sim configuration or network access when configuring antenna's direction for example.
It's possible to switch sim by SMS command, but it would be fantastic to have a button somewhere on the webUI (on the mobile widget in the status overview page, or in SIM Management page for example) just to force switch sim if needed.

By the way, does someone know
- What command is run when the switch_sim command is received by SMS by the router ?

- Is-it possible to run this command using the CLI ?

Hi,

To switch SIM card takes some time, but according your description seems like is something wrong with your router software.

Try to reinstall router firmware: https://wiki.teltonika.lt/view/RUT9xx_Firmware

DO NOT keep settings when flashing!

I already use the latest firmware... Upgrade is the first thing i've done straight out-of the box ;)

What in my description make you thing that something is wrong ?

According to my latest tests :
- automatic switching enabled,
- then physically remove the active sim by hand to force the router to switch.

in that case, the switch is done faster than with:
- automatic switching disabled
- Choosing the other sim as primary in the webui then apply the change.

My main concern about aking question here, is that i'am not sure what is the best way to just and only switch LTE connection between sim,
without, changing the default sim parameter.

Any help on how to do that via both webui and cli will be nice !

Seems I not understand correctly your main issue.

So, all your tests and notes are correct.

Router do not have button/feature for manual switch between sim cards. It only can change primary SIM card.

Via SSH this would be perhaps more faster but you also will be needed to change primary SIM card.

Could you describe for what purpose you want to use router and why such feature is needed? What problem it will solve in your network?

My main use for this router will be to live stream sport event over 4G.

From my first expériences with a phone used as a modem, sometime, i'd experienced loss of bandwith upload with my main LTE provider.
In this situation i want to be able to quickly switch to a second sim of an other provider.
As the RUT950 canot monitor bandwith my best option is to manually switch between sim ...

Do you know how can i switch sim via ssh/cli ?

By the way :

After these first step and tests with the RUT950,
i think that the best option for me will be to use two chained RTU, one for each sim.

This way both of the LTE/4G connection will be active at the same time.

The primary LTE/4G will be in active in a second RUT950 (or maybe a little less expensive RUT240).
This router will be connected in the WAN port of my actual RUT950.

This way, i will be able to use load balancing between two LTE connection,
and still have network access even if one connection fail or experience bandwith drop...

(i think it will be better than using VRRP as it's only provide redudancy)

As I mentioned before, setting located: /etc/config/simcard

But according your description seems like solution would be two routers and load balancing as you mentioned.

Yup my best option seem to use a second router with load balancing enabled.

Looking further inside RutOS, here is what i found about the command line :

I'am able to manually and quickly switch between sim using this command : /usr/sbin/sim_switch
You need to pass some parameter to the command this way : /usr/sbin/sim_switch change sim2 (or sim1).

It seem to work fine even if the command return some strange iptables errors :

root@Teltonika-RUT950:~# /usr/sbin/sim_switch change sim2

Folks,

sim_switch does work for me, even though i get the same errors as stated above. What is a bit annoying is that it triggers all outputs on my RUT955, turning of the digital relay output. Not a big issue for me, as it is only the ambient lighting in my Caravan.. ;) Could be an issue for others!
