Hi all,

I am having real trouble understanding the vlan setup on the rut955s I have. I am trying to setup a vlan and standard lan and have the two be able to talk to each other through one port to my radiolink that runs 2 networks.

let me explain my setup.

  • rut955 running RUT9_R_00.07.02.7 on 10.15.0.6
  • Laptop on LAN1 on 10.15.0.100
  • RadioLink on LAN3 on 10.15.0.10 as well as 10.17.0.10 (VLAN 8)

there are other devices on the radio link side on 10.17.0.X vlan8 and 10.15.0.X

So here is the problem. with no vlan setup I power up everything and I can ping the RUT on 10.15.0.6 my RadioLink and 10.15.0.10 devices on the other end of the link. devices on the radio end can ping the laptop as well. so the 10.15.0.X network is working well.

Now I want to set up a VLAN on the rut. So I want to setup VLAN 8 with the rut having 17.10.0.6 and I want to be able to have the 10.15.0.x and 10.17.0.x talk to each other.

So I am assuming port based is out as I cant tag and un-tag the same port on a rut955 for lan and vlan8 everything I have tried has resulted on being able to ping either 10.15.0.x or 10.17.0.x but not both. So do I need to just create a new valn instance on eth0? Then create a new interface and select vlan instance I just created?

Hi,

You can have more than one Tagged Vlan on a Physical port.  I am sending you a document that may provide some clarity as well as a link for a video that helps.
