In terms of mounted direction, the antenna is intended to be placed on a surface parallel to the ground. It is an omnidirectional antenna, meaning that its transmission/reception properties are similar in any direction.
When antenna is attached to the device, you can evaluate received signal properties from the device's WebUI Status -> Realtime data -> Mobile signal section, which would give you the best estimate of ideal orientation in your case..
