Hi,

I have a RUTX14 in a qu spot enclosure on the top of a boat mast and am looking to try improve the range. I am considering buying a poynting Omni 493 antenna and using this on the modems main antenna input then using the other three build in antennas in the qu spot enclosure to fill out the mimo part. This allows me to have the additional range of the poynting antenna (9dbi) and then still utilise the wider receiving of the other 3 antennas (3dbi).

Will this work? I’m not sure if this is against the way mimo works? I’m just trying to maximise range.

Cheers!

Hello,

The omni 493 does seem very well suited for your use case and has the potential to provide performance improvement.

Using antennas with differing gain and directivity properties is not against MIMO. It might provide a more versatile configuration for receiving signals from close proximity and distant base towers.

However, radio transmission has many variables to account for, and the best suggestion would be, if possible, to first test every setup before making any commitments.

Best regards,
