We get no GPS fix on our RUTX50 units. This is preventing us from using these units as intended. From what I can see the position we get using AT command is correct, but gpsctl reports no data. Also no GPS time is available. Any hints?

Hi,

Could you please execute the following command via CLI/SSH and post the output?:

  • ubus call gsm.modem0 get_nmea '{"satellite": "gpsnmeatype"}'

Kind Regards,

Andzej

Hi,

This is the output of that command:

root@Teltonika-RUTX50:~# ubus call gsm.modem0 get_nmea '{"satellite": "gpsnmeatype"}'

{

        "type_id": 1,

        "type": "disable"

}

Can't offer help myself, but i can say that i've only had my RUTX50 10 days.   With the shipped firmware GPS worked, having updated the firmware to RUTX_R_00.07.03.3 it now no longer works.

I get a permanent message saying "No GPS Signal"

My 15yr old hand held garmin GPS is working without issues in same location as the router.
by anonymous
Hi, I have the same problem. GPS mouse connected to the RUTX50  GPS enabled, but always get No GPS Signal! What can I do?
by anonymous
Two weeks'ish ago I was told that the next firmware upgrade would resolve the issue. The firmware that fixes the issue and presumably other issues also is now available.

So to solve the problem update your routers firmware. I have and GPS now works. Sending text to the router afterwards works excellently too.
by anonymous
I updated already and I still have the problem!
by anonymous
What firmware version have you got?

Is it version 00.07.04?

If it isn't try again.

I'm assuming you have enabled GPS and selected the satellite relevant to your location and the GPS antenna is in a suitable location to find satellites.

Hi @7xy ,

Make sure that GPS is turned on, and that the antennas are attached correctly and have a clear view of the sky.

If you are still unable to obtain a GPS signal, please, connect to your device via CLI/SSH and run the following commands:

  • ubus call gsm.modem0 info | grep gps
  • cat /dev/ttyUSB2   (this command is based on the output of the previous one, so change the 'ttyUSB2' according to that)
  • gpsctl -pseix
  • ubus call gsm.modem0 get_nmea '{"satellite": "gpsnmeatype"}'

Please, post the output of these commands.

Additionally, I would like you to attach a troubleshoot file. Troubleshoot file can be downloaded from System -> Administration -> Troubleshoot.

Kind Regards,

Andzej

Hi Andzej,

I do have a GPS location now. Is it possible that it needs a long time to get a fix?

What type of satellite do I have to choose? All or which one?
by anonymous

Is it possible that it needs a long time to get a fix? How long it takes to get a fix depends on all sorts of things. Weather.... High humidity gets in the way in the form of heavy cloud, mist, fog, rain and snow etc. The antennas' location...... The best position has to be in the middle of a 10 acre field with nothing nearby at all on a clear, sunny day!  The worst possible position is indoors and especially at the centre of a building on the ground floor or below!   If it's in a vehicle, then the best position for the gps antenna has to be on the roof and not under the driver's seat!   If the vehicle is in a heavily built-up area such as an inner city centre then gps may struggle and more so on a dark cloudy day.  If it's in the middle of open countryside then it'll be fine unless your in the middle of a thunderstorm, perhaps.

What type of satellite do I have to choose? All or which one? Where in the world are you?

If you are in Russia you would perhaps try Glonas first. If you are in Europe then you would try Galileo. If you are in China then it would be BeiDou.

I'm in the UK and have turned on Galileo.

Hi Andzej,

GPS gone now! Here are the results of the CLI inputs you gave me:

Hello,

I´ve got the same result:

root@Teltonika-RUTX50:~# ubus call gsm.modem0 get_nmea '{"satellite": "gpsnmeatype"}'

{

        "type_id": 1,

        "type": "disable"

Is there already a fix for the gps connection?

Hi,

after allI will give feedback on my GPS-problem and how I solved it.

After all the GPS antenna delivered with the RUTX50 is working very very poorly. My dealer sent me a other brand and now the GPS works like a charm. I found it out, because I do have a other device with a GPS antenna which works fine inside my camper van without facing to the sky directly. As I connected this antenna with the RUTX50 the problem was gone.

Thanks for the help to all of you. Hope this will help other users.

Can anyone confirm that these is the solution we should be looking into?

We have the same issue with RUTX12.

Taking into account that this is supposed to be a professional device am starting to have second thoughts.

From the regulatory perspective the amount of documentation needed to allow such a device in the production environment suddenly became huge only because of the FW upgrade issues. If we also need to replace the antenna it's probably game over with this brand.
