DHCP stops if you have more then 1 static lease in fw RUTX_R_00.02.01.1
by anonymous
I have found that even adding ONE static ip kills DHCP and as such the whole router!

How was this tested!?!

To be honest I only read great things about the previous models but not overly impressed with the RUTX11. The firmare updates are extremely slow and only now introducing (albeit BROKEN) functionality that it should have had been there on release date.

Hello,

I was not able to reproduce the issue regarding DHCP static leases using the latest firmware version (RUTX_R_00.02.01.1). During the testing, RUTX11 was configured to assign five static leases. Three IP addresses were from the DHCP pool range and two of them outside of it.

Could you provide detailed instructions on how to reproduce the issue? Every detail is important.

In the meantime, I would suggest resetting or even better updating your RUTX11 firmware via bootloader menu and check whether the issue persists. Instructions on how to perform an update can be found in Teltonika Wiki:
https://wiki.teltonika.lt/view/RUT9xx_Firmware_via_The_Bootloader_Menu

Note, that these instructions are made for RUT9** series devices, however, the same principle applies to RUTX11 as well.

I have done an update via bootloader menu and now DHCP and static leases functions OK.

I have added 3 IP addresses inside pool and 2 outside pool for testing.

My question is now:

Why had I to use Bootloader menu instead of updating the normal way???
by
I have found the problem.

You can´t use letters åäö in the name for the static lease.

As soon as you add a name with some of the letters åäö the DHCP stops !!!!!!

In Sweden we use this letters a lot.

Hello,

Thank you for your remarks regarding the DHCP issue. Using special symbols the issue was reproduced. I will forward the information regarding this query to the R&D department for further analysis.

Firmware update via bootloader is just one of the ways to fully restore the device to its factory default settings.

Thank you for the reply however I cannot update via bootloader as do not have a PC or laptop close to the RUTX11 with an ethernet port.

So how can I overcome the issue? Will a reset and then loading my backup resolve the issue?

Can you release an update that will resolve this problem by updating the normal way please?

To be honest this is pretty frustrting and we should not have to jump through hoops to get basic functionality. As I mentioned, I only read good things about the previous models but just not seeing that with the X11. Slow f/w updates, having to update via bootloader :-(

Hello chippie,

Yes, the issue can be resolved by resetting a device to its factory default settings. Since the backup file contains static lease configuration including the name of the lease, there is a chance that a router becomes inaccessible after the backup upload.

We are planning to implement static lease validation into forthcoming firmware releases in order to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Please note that this issue occurs due to the fact that RutOS is based on Linux distribution that does not support special symbols in system configuration files.

Thanks Julius,

I tried to reset to factory but this this did not resolve the issue. As soon as I added a static lease it killed the router and ALL connections.

I do NOT and have not use any special characters or symbols so this is not the cause of the issue, you simply cannot add any static leases irrespective of the characters used, that is a seperate although connected issue.

Is there any way you can release an update that we can load remotely which will resolve the issue. It is a real pain for me to get to the box with an ethernet enabled laptop to load it via bootloader.

Thank You!

Could you provide a name of your static lease?
by anonymous
I think I just used

'Smartthings Hub'

With and without the space I think.
by anonymous
Oh and since the update I also cannot access it locally via Chrome, I have to use IE/Edge.

It lets me enter the passord then just sits there looking at me on the Login page.
by anonymous
I just tried again and it seems OK with

SmartThingsHub

So no space, in there. At the moment it is OK so I apologise, I was sure I treid it without a space before but must have been wrong.

Is a 'space' considered a special symbol?
by anonymous
I will have to conduct some testing in order to verify this strange behavior.
by anonymous
Thank You!

I can definately confirm that using a name without a 'space' works OK, with a 'space' in the name it kills DHCP.

Not sure why I cannot login via Google as nothing has changed on my equipment but since the update I definately cannot login via it.

Thank you for your time in replying.

Have a fab weekend! :-)

Until the new firmware release, I would suggest you use a bit simpler names for your static leases :)

You too!
