Good morning,

we have purchased some RUT240 routers to connect our systems via the internet, the rut240s are configured with only the mobile phone SIM and we expect them to be connected 24 hours a day.

well in some cases we see that the connection is stable (one disconnection every 2-3 days) in other cases different disconnections per hour. what settings can we apply so that these routers disconnect as little as possible?

Hello,

Below are some general suggestions:

  • Check if the mobile connectivity parameters have acceptable strength and quality indicator values in Status -> Network -> Mobile. For specific values refer to this link: https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/Mobile_Signal_Strength_Recommendations.
  • In low coverage areas try changing device location and use directional antennas.
  • Test configurations with both, automatically and custom set APN values in Network -> Interfaces section. In some instances, custom APN is required for stable connection as auto option may acquire wrong values and switch rapidly between them, resulting in unreliable connectivity.
  • Always use latest firmware.
  • In some cases, where mobile occasionally disconnects, and for the connection to reestablish a reboot is required, instead of rebooting the whole device, configure automatic modem reboot in Services -> Auto reboot -> Ping/Wget reboot. It is faster and the device does not lose power.
  • Sometimes, automatically selected mobile frequency bands may not provide desired speeds or stability. In these cases, a manual band setting may be a solution. For instructions check this page: https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/Band_Lock.
  • There is a difference in functionality between the MAIN and AUX antennas. For the communication to establish, MAIN antenna must be connected and properly oriented.
  • If the device is updated to at least 7.2 version, and the disconnects are still present, modem firmware can be updated separately. Instructions have already been provided in previous threads, such as this: https://community.teltonika-networks.com/50265/rut951-with-mobile-wan-interface-coming-even-with-connected.

Aside from the above suggestions, a troubleshoot file from the device in question might reveal more details, regarding connectivity issues. To generate the file, first, make sure the issue has occurred, then access router's WebUI, go to System -> Administration > Troubleshoot section and download troubleshoot file from there.

Best regards,
