Hello,

after updating the firmware version from RUT9_R_00.07.02.7 to version RUT9_R_00.07.03, changing the default SIM card in both directions (MOB1S1A1 to MOB1S2A1 and vice versa) requires switching the device off and on again to activate the interface (a reboot does not help). In the previous version, this type of failover worked seamlessly without a reboot.

Thanks and BR Guenther

Hello,

I have tried to perform SIM switch both ways via WebUI and SMS commands, but did not experience any issues.

If you have performed firmware update with Keep settings option set to on, could you reset device to factory defaults (in the WebUI go to System -> Backup -> Restore default settings) and check, if the issue persists? Please note that this will delete your current configuration.

If device reset does not help, could you describe, why does the device need switching off?

Could you provide a troubleshoot file to check the SIM switch sequence? First, replicate the issue by issuing SIM switch, then access router's WebUI, go to System -> Administration -> Troubleshoot section and download troubleshoot file from there. The logs in the file may provide more details into possible causes of the issue. Attach the file by editing your question.

Hello,

after the WAN and WWAN interfaces were "down", I tried switching back and forth between the two SIM cards a few times; I set the "Default SIM" switch to "on" in the "SIM1" resp. "SIM2" tabs in the Network -> Mobile menu. That went well a few times, until after such a switch in the menu Network -> Interfaces, both mob1s1a1 and mob1s2a1 remained on "down". The system appeared to have hung as it froze with the message "Generating File" while trying to create a troubleshoot file. The interruption of the supply voltage brought back the configured interface mob1s2a1 (refer to my question above). It was then also possible to create the troubleshoot file. I've attached it to my original question as requested. At least one further attempt to change the SIM card failed immediately afterwards. Because of the advanced time, I finished my tests.

The other morning.

Another test gave the following picture. After I had set the inactive SIM card as "default SIM" and then looked at the menu "Status -> Network -> Mobile (Mobile Information), some values changed first, then the display froze (Image_1). Then I pressed the button "Restart Connection"; either the system hung up straight away (case 1) or it displayed the message "Modem not ready" (case 2). In case 2, pressing the button "Restart Connection" a second time led to the System hang up. Since the problem is not always reproducible, could it be that the problem is related to unstable software handling of the modem? After power off the "Mobile Information" page looked like this (Image_2). What do you think?

I have tried the settings based on the troubleshoot file you have provided.

SIM switching seems to work without any issues until Operator settings are enabled in Network -> Mobile section.

The device starts taking long periods of time for operator scanning, eventually failing, thus connection to operator is lost. Image_1 seems to be taken during one of such scans as well as an attempt to generate the troubleshoot file.

Is this functionality critical to you?

Did the same configuration work with previous firmware versions?

Good morning,

regarding your question about whether this function is critical for me, I would like to say the following. The router offers two SIM card slots as an essential feature and I bought this feature. I use the router in my camper and because I live very close to the Swiss border, the SIM switch is essential for me. So I don't have an industrially critical application, but I do have a vital interest in this feature.

I can't say anything specific about the question of whether this behavior already occurred in a previous version. I used the second (Swiss) SIM card at the beginning of 2022. At about the same time I switched to an early firmware version 7.x that was not yet in production. There were so many problems that I went back to the last of the 6.x releases and waited for a 7.x to go into production. I then no longer carried out systematic tests of the SIM switch. However, we want to go on a big trip in Europe next year and then I don't want to have any problems with the SIM switch.

But now back to the test. Can you tell me how the system generates a troubleshoot file? When will it be recreated, when will it end? What period does it cover? Can you reset the file? Answering these questions might help me to systematize my tests. And maybe it would help you in judging the system behavior based on the file.

By functionality, I meant Operator settings option in Network -> Mobile -> General section. Could you disable it and see if your issues with SIM switch continue.

As mentioned, I was able to reproduce the behavior, I simply need your confirmation that this is the case.

As for the troubleshoot file, by default, it stores records in RAM from the device boot time to restart/power off, meaning that logs are lost with each power cycle. Logs can be stored in flash memory, but that is not recommended as it reduces the lifetime of flash and in your case, not recommended.

Hello,

sorry for misunderstanding you. Good to know about troubleshoot file generation. So I can produce it specifically for one test and describe the test steps; so you get a clear picture what happened.

For now I will have a break over the turn of the year and continue next week.

Wish you a healthy New Year.

Good morning,

first of all a Happy New Year.

I created a test plan and ran it once; the error reappeared. I have attached the backup file (backup_01-Teltonika-RUT955.com-2023-01-02.tar.gz) so you can see the configuration, the troubleshoot file (troubleshoot_01-Teltonika-RUT955.com-2023-01 -02.tar.gz), the file with the performed test steps (TestInstance_01 - Switch SIM_2023-01-02.pdf) and the test plan (TestPlan - Switch SIM.docx). If you want, you can make changes to the test plan and send them to me; then I run the test accordingly. Many thanks, best regards Guenther

Hello,

Thank you for the detailed report.

Sorry for the delayed response.

At the moment, I would suggest to perform a modem firmware update. However, the procedure requires a stable alternative WAN source, either wired or wireless. For instructions, please refer to this link.

A couple of things to note about your case:

  • <ID> - should be 1-1.4, however, in case of an error you should be shown a correct ID.
  • <VERSION> - enter the latest firmware version from the list of the previously executed command, it should be EC25EUGAR08A01M4G.

Best regards,

Hello,

after updating the system with the new modem firmware, I ran test instance 02. This ran successfully, as can be seen from the "TestInstance_02 - Switch SIM_2023-01-15.pdf" file. The only strange thing was the occurrence of error 404. Configuration file (ID "02") and troubleshoot file (ID "02a") are attached.

Now I have carried out further SIM switches without restarting the router. These SIM switches were all unsuccessful. The originally reported error occurred in both directions. After the first unsuccessful SIM switch, I created another troubleshoot file with the identifier "02b". Maybe this gives more clues.

Questions:
There seems to be a problem with the router's firmware configuration; therefore the modem firmware update. How will the system behave with future firmware updates? The next version, FW07.03.02, is already on offer. Is the modem firmware update compatible with this and future firmware versions?

What is the 404 error all about?

After one of the SIM switches I called up the menu Status -> Network -> Mobile; the system froze with a circling "Loading..." symbol and didn't report back. This was already the case in test instance 01 at the time. A reload of the website brought the system back to life. Are there problems with the WebUI?

The firmware configuration of the router does not seem stable to me at the moment. What's next?

Good Morning, when do you think can we continue solving this problem?

Hello,

Apologies for the late reply.

Could you please check, if the latest 7.4 firmware release resolves your issues?

Best regards,

Hello ZygimantasBliu,

although it's not my job to test firmware versions, I'll share my latest experience with you.

After switching the SIM card from SIM1 (mob1s1a1) to SIM2 (mob1s2a1), the connection to the provider is not established automatically. The status of mob1s2a1 remains offline. Even a reboot doesn't change that. Only a re-scan under the menu Network > Mobile > Network Operators, button "Scan for operators" brings the router back to the mobile network (mob1s2a1).

If you walk through Crowd Support Forum, you can find that not only my router model has problems with unstable mobile connectivity. There are similar cases, but, as far as I can see, all have updated to firmware versions 7.x.

I would appreciate it very much to get rid of this problem soon. Thank you very much.
