RUT955 after a power failure, port RS232, through which the meter is connected, does not rise. The problem is observed on different firmware versions and not on one RUT955.

Helps to physically disconnect the power supply.

Hello,

Could you please explain the power failure in more detail?

I assume that RS232 not working is temporary, and service is restored after power cycling the router?

Could you attach a troubleshoot file to your question. Make sure to replicate the issue, then access router's WebUI, go to System -> Administration -> Troubleshoot section and download troubleshoot file from there. The logs in the file might provide more insight into the issue.

Attached files are private and visible only to Teltonika Moderators.

Territorially, I am located in Ukraine and currently there is a constant problem with power supply throughout the country, in connection with this, the power is constantly turned off in order to save money. When the power appears, the port stops working and is not available in the web interface. To eliminate it, I perform the following actions - I pull out the power supply unit from the socket, after 30 seconds I turn it on and the port starts working.

Perhaps there is some way to restart the RS232 remotely, without physically removing the power supply from the outlet?
No such problem is observed with rs485

Could you login to the router via SSH and check, if any of the commands below restore the functionality of RS232:

  • /etc/init.d/rs232 restart
  • reload_config
  • /usr/sbin/sodog -p /dev/rs232 -b 8 -s 9600 -a none -t 1 -m server -g 5232 -w 0

Have you tried the latest firmware? [Download link]

None of these commands restores rs232.

I tried the firmware from RUT9XX_R_00.06.09.2 to RUT9_R_00.07.03.

Just tried to update the firmware to RUT9_R_00.07.03.2 | 2023.01.13, but it did not change anything, RS232 remained in a non-working state. But after removing the power supply from the outlet and inserting it back, the port starts working.

I can't even imagine what the problem is... There are more than 50 teltonica rut955 available and it is very inconvenient to drive around the city and physically reload them.

I have forwarded your issue to the development team to look into.

Once there are updates, I will post them.

Thank you, I will wait for a positive solution to this problem.

Hello!

Sorry to bother you) Is there any news regarding my problem?
by anonymous
Hello,

The development team is still looking for a solution. Unfortunately, the issue seems to be related to a hardware design flaw initiated by the power outages, thus the workaround is not quite straightforward.

In the meantime, would it be possible for you to attach a list with the serial numbers of the devices, experiencing the issue?

Best regards,

Hello,

It appears that not much can be done from your side to avoid RS232 issue.

Due to that, your current course of action is to return the devices experiencing the issue to your reseller and initiate RMA process. The devices would then be shipped for repair.

Hello!

Thank you for your help, we will decide something.

Hello, I would like you to enquire, if you have decided how to proceed with your RUT955 devices. I have sent you a private message. Best regards,

Hello!

In order to send teltonics to the service center, we have nothing to replace them with. So far, as a temporary measure, the accounting devices have been connected via a USB adapter (232/485), having configured the USB port accordingly. And the warranty period for them has long expired.
