I am attempting to use an RUTX50 with starlink. When I plug the starlink into the WAN port I can connect to starlink and it reports an internet connection is established but the internet is unusable. When I ping 1.1.1.1 30 percent of packets are lost and ping times occasionally spike to over 500ms with the average being below 100ms. I am unable to connect to any servers to perform a speed test. When I revert to the starlink router, pings to 1.1.1.1 results in no lost packets and average time of under 50ms. I am using default setting on the RUTX50

Hello,

I will ask you to replicate the issue, navigate to System → Administration → Troubleshoot and generate a troubleshoot file. This file can be attached to the original question and will only be visible to Teltonika moderators.

Troubleshooting file attached to original question. Recent ping test from iPhone app to 8.8.8.8 results in 120 packets lost from over 800 sent with minimum ping time 50ms, maximum 480ms, median 100ms. Still cannot browse websites or use apps requiring internet connection.

Hello,

Sorry for the delayed response.

As I understand, you have the Starlink dish connected directly to the RUTX50, is that correct? Could you try connecting the dish to the Starlink-provided router, and then connect the RUTX50 to the Starlink router? Make sure the subnets do not overlap.

I will also ask you to change the MTU value on the WAN interface. Navigate to Network → Interfaces → click the pencil icon on the WAN interface and under Advanced Settings, change the Override MTU option to 1472.

Let me know if that helps.

Yes I have the dish connected directly to the router. Mine is a gen 2 dish so I cannot connect a the RUTX50 to the starlink router without purchasing and Ethernet adapter for it. I want to avoid this as the setup is for use in an RV with a 12v power supply. I will try changing the MTU value in the current dish to Rutx50 arrangement

Hello,

Let me know if changing the MTU helps.

Also, could you try connecting the RUTX50 to the Starlink router using WiFi as WAN and check how it behaves? I understand that this is not the desired setup, but it could be useful for testing.

I was not able to find any resources on what the router settings should be when connecting the dish directly to a third-party router, thus I'm not sure where the issue could be. If MTU size change does not help, let me know and we can continue troubleshooting.

MTU change did not help. Used a static ip of 192.168.50.1 for the LAN and set WAN port MTU at 1472.

Which wifi port should I set to wan? 2.4 or 5ghz? Is the only parameter to modify in the wifi interface connection window “network”? Do I leave the mode as access point?

I would recommend following this guide on how to set up a WiFi relay.

I presume the Starlink router supports both - 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi channels, so 5GHz would be better to use.

Let me know how it goes!

I have successfully created a WAN port through the 2.4ghz wifi channel and added the new interface to the network. When I ping 8.8.8.8 I have no lost packets and can browse the internet. Wifi WAN port has been assigned an ip of 192.168.1.x and is stable. There must be some issue with the CGNAT address that the wires WAN port gets from the dish directly. Since I have a connection to the internet with the modem I will update the firmware and attempt a wired LAN setup again

Hello,

Sure, you can try the changes you suggested.

If that does not help, try connecting to the CLI of the device, and running this command:

ethtool -s eth1 duplex half speed 100 autoneg off

While I have some doubts about this command helping, it's worth a shot. It limits the link speed to 100Mbps, disables auto-negotiation, and sets the duplex to half. This would help if there is an L1 issue (wiring, etc.).

I cant login to CLI with my password

Ignore the previous comment as I didn’t know I had to login to root.

I ran the script as suggested without any success.

I have tested all my cables without finding any issue.

My power supply (12v-48v converter maintains voltage at or above 48v during connection and while running.

I am beginning to strongly suspect that the CGNAT addresses are the cause of the issue.

Hello,

In that case, I would recommend reverting the previous command using this one:

ethtool -s eth1 duplex full speed 1000 autoneg on

To set the port to 1Gbps speed.

As for the CGNAT address, I wouldn't imagine it causing any issues, as many of our devices use SIM cards that provide a CGNAT address. To be safe, try setting the LAN IP of the RUTX to 192.168.5.0/24 to ensure this is not an IP conflict.

Perhaps the settings of the Starlink router indicate some differences in configuration?

Could you try setting the MTU to something lower? 1200, 1300, 1400, etc.

Hello,

I will also ask you to test the functionality of the router when using v7.3.4 of RutOS which can be downloaded here.
