I've noticed that I lose internet connection for about 10 seconds once per hour.

First this happened at around 28 minutes past the hour. My initial thought was that the service provider renews the lease for the public IP once per hour. I contacted the service provider, but they said that this isn't the case. I then rebooted the modem (initiated a few minutes past the hour). After the reboot, the connection is lost at a few seconds to six minutes past the hour ... every hour.

I currently use firmware RUT2XX_R_00.01.13.2, but noticed the same behaviour with firmware version previously installed (RUT2XX_R_00.01.12).

Topology

RUT240 (bridge mode) > Router > Switch > Computer

Performed troubleshooting

  1. Log files for router and switching equipment has been reviewed without finding any records indicating an issue.
  2. The log displayed in the user interface shows no entries related to the issue.
  3. Simultaneous ping command to three addresses (one to a public DNS server, one to the RUT240 and one to the router; hence, to the modem, an upstream address and a downstream address) resulted in the modem and the public DNS server not responding during the outage (20:05:55 to 20:06:04 in the example below), but the router continued to respond.

Conclusion

Hence, I conclude that the RUT240 causes the issue.

Questions

Could it be a setting that needs to be changed, or an issue that can be fixed in a firmware release?

I have the same issue.

As I use the RUT240 LTE purely as a backup WAN to my pfSense box it went un-noticed until I spotted this causing various interface rebinding operations on the pfSense box every hour when the IP changed.   It appears to have been happening ever since I got the RUT240.

Hello, after some investigation, I can share the following information:

1) RUT230 (which can only connect to 2G) + Firmware 1.14.6

  • Connection Type = QMI + NAT --> Disconnects every 60 minutes
  • Changed to Connection Type = PPP --> (so far) No disconnects anymore
    I hope that this is now a stable state.

2) Any RUT240 (connected to LTE) --> Regardless of firmware no discconnects

3) RUT240 with firmware 07.03.01 forced to "2G only" --> No discconnects
(I think that with firmware 07.01 and later, the PPP connection type was removed. See https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUT240_Deprecated_features) So obviously, RUT240 with new firmware does not have trouble with QMI connections.

4) RUT240 with firmware 1.14.6 forced to "2G only" + Connection Type QMI+NAT --> Disconnects every 60 minutes

What I have not yet tried:

  • RUT230 + firmware 07.xx (Here, I am hesitating since PPP war removed with new firmware...)
  • RUT240 + firmware 1.14.6 + forced to 2G + PPP connection type (but testing is on the way)

Hello,

If I understand correctly, you are experiencing disconnects with RUT230 and RUT240 legacy firmware?

I would like to point that by this point, RUT230 is an end of life device (refer here). If PPP is providing satisfactory results, stick to it.

As for RUT240, legacy firmware is only updated, if there are critical security issues, or support for some hardware changes needs to be implemented, thus it is unlikely that any changes will be implemented, if current RutOS works without issues. I highly encourage to update to the latest 7.04 release..

Is there any particular reason, why are you using legacy firmware?

Best regards,

Hello,

Could you try to re-flash your firmware image via the bootloader menu to the latest one. Please follow this link for the instructions: https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUT2xx_Firmware_via_The_Bootloader_Menu

If that does not help, please provide me with the full product code of your router or modem firmware version that currently is installed (modem and router have separate firmwares).

Regards.

Hey,

I have the same issue. How do I fix it?

Hello,

Could you send me a troubleshoot file in a private message to look into the issue? Please, make sure some disconnects have occurred, then access router's WebUI, go to System -> Administration -> Troubleshoot section and download troubleshoot file from there.

Best regards,

Hello, I now also observed this problem with firmware 1.14.6.

Mobile data disconnected and (after 10-20 seconds) connected again. This happen every hour.

Can you help?

Could you try updating to 7.3.4 firmware version (download link), and see if the issue persists.

Otherwise, as suggested above, replicate the issue, generate the troubleshoot file and send it in a private message.

Best regards,

PM just sent. Thank you very much.

Hello, thanks for the answer. Yes, there is a reason why I cannot use the latest 7.xx release and have to use the legacy firmware:
https://community.teltonika-networks.com/58932/does-fw-rut2_r_00-07-03-and-rut2_r_00-loose-auto-apn-setting

I have not managed yet to upgarde to 7.xx over the air and not loosing connection ot the device due to some "operator white list setting".
As soon as this is fixed, I am happy to use the new firmware.
